The Story of Paddles on Parade

Paddles on Parade was started in 2008/2009. It is a fun, public event that raises funds for our education and outreach activities. Artists and members of the community apply their talents to the fun and unusual medium of paddles, and attendees have the opportunity to purchase these exciting pieces, all while supporting us.

The paddles are auctioned off at an annual Gala, featuring entertainment, sweet and savory snacks, and the beautiful paddles in either a live or silent auction.

Each year there is an opening reception before the Gala, to generate more awareness of the paddles available for auction. Last year they were displayed at Seattle's own Wild at Heart. It's a great way to get a sneak peek before the big auction event, and to see the paddles for free if you can't attend the Gala.

In 2009, around 40 paddles were decorated and Paddles on Parade earned over $4,000 towards our education and outreach activities. The event did similarly well in 2010, and is going to change and expand for 2011.
